Role

The Assistant Manager oversees daily operations of their assigned store in assistance to, or in the absence of, the Store Manager. The position requires a highly motivated, self-directed individual who can maintain a high level of professionalism. This individual is capable of multi-tasking and has keen attention to detail. An important function of the Assistant Manager is to be knowledgeable about the company, our brand, our service philosophy, our culture and our wide selection of products.

Key Responsibilities

Supports Canvas Training & Development requirements by:

  • Performing the onboarding and training of new employees as required
  • Initial orientation of new hires including introduction to COVA and product offerings
  • Training and ongoing development of Budtenders, Team Leads
  • Handing off Inventory Associates to inventory leadership for further development
  • Following up on training to ensure all staff have successfully completed their Training Checklists and are up to date on all new products and knowledge
  • Assisting COO in creation and maintenance of quick reference guides and/or other information materials that will enhance the knowledge base of the team
  • Assisting in the development and continuous improvement of the core training program

Supports Canvas Retail Operations requirements by:

  • Overseeing day to day operations at store location to which they are assigned o Creating daily break list for all staff
  • Assigning all daily and weekly cleaning and other duties o Processing sales and all types of payments at POS terminal as needed
  • Issuing receipts, refunds & exchanges per company approved standards
  • Overseeing cash-out and cash skim process of budtenders as required
  • Verifying all cashiers’ deposits for accuracy
  • Inspection and follow-up of all assigned tasks
  • Maintaining a clean professional environment
  • Stays informed on current strains and other products
  • Supervises all front of house staff, ensuring that everyone follows all company service standards and meets all federal/provincial regulatory standards
  • Supports the front of house team by processing sales as required by business levels
  • Serves customers in a friendly and professional manner, setting an example for all staff
  • Answers all customer questions and resolves all concerns/complaints in a satisfactory manner

Supplementary Duties

  • Assists in planning and execution of store sales, pop-ups, product launches, community events and staff functions
  • Leads merchandising effort in the store by ensuring all displays are clean, well-lit and attractive
  • Assists in enforcing all loss prevention policies and reporting any inventory shortages and overstocks
  • Collaborates with the Store Manager and other Supervisors to provide feedback on performance of all staff for probationary/annual reviews
  • BOH dispensing as required by staffing and business levels
  • Research and propose accessories investments based on store sales trends of same
  • Stay well informed of local community issues, activities, events, etc. and keep upper management informed accordingly
  • Ensure that shift needs are met in the event that any staff member calls in sick, or is a no show by immediately contacting the COO
  • When possible, make every effort to inform and educate staff on all new products
  • Conduct a monthly accessories audit utilizing appropriate form and explain deficiencies

Experience & Background

  • A Canvas employee in good standing for 3 months or more
  • Successful police background check
  • Completed CannSell Certificate
  • Knowledgeable about the company, our brand, our service philosophy, our culture and our wide selection of products
  • Adept at improving customer experience through product knowledge and exceptional service
  • Strong knowledge of COVA POS system
  • Analytical skills
